Ha, witty!

In this stacked episode, we talk over the breaking news story of Fernando Alonso missing Australia due to the concussion he got in testing, and whether or not the conspiracy theorists can have a field day on it.

We also talk about Carmen Jorda’s hiring at Lotus, and the nature of Women in Formula 1 as it stands, the helmet change ban, and we embrace Mercedes as our new silver overlords with some truly terrifying stats about their testing runs in Barcelona. And we even go into detail about Bernie being nice, as Caterham gets sold and Manor contiues their comeback.

January 23, 2016 Episode #11: The Shameless #BikeLive Reunion

Episode #11: The Shameless #BikeLive Reunion

Okay, got to be totally honest here, this isn’t really a show for me, this was a show for Downforce Radio. But I produced it, so its technically mine, so I thought, why not do double duty! Consider this a bonus episode as a thank you for all your support!

In this bonus episode, it’s a massive World Superbikes Season Preview, as we talk about the Kawasaki Super Team and Tom Sykes vs Jonathan Rea, whether Sylvain Guintoli can retain his title after an awful crash in testing, Alex Lowes leading the early timing sheets, the British hopes, the newcomers in Jordi Torres and Nico Terol, the return of Troy GODDAMN Bayliss, and our big early season predictions.

So enjoy me, Louis Suddaby and Rebecca “Trying to hide her Alex Lowes fangirlism” James, as we spend 70 minutes getting you ready for the World Superbike Season opener in Philip Island!

January 23, 2016 Episode #10: From Marussia With Love

Episode #10: From Marussia With Love

In this episode of the show, Crekkan breaks the meter with the number of Wrestling references he can get into a 65 minute show.

In other news, we talk about Manor’s 2nd bite at F1’s cherry as Force India veto’ed their 2014 car registration attempt, and why they don’t deserve the attacks they’ve been getting, and why we all really need to look at what Manor is at this point, and why it may be for the best if they don’t compete next year.

Also, we talk about the 1,000bhp car adjustment vote that’s taking place tomorrow and ask whether it’s really going to improve the sport, or whether it’s just another moment of F1 fans being drunk with power.

We also cover the Circuit of Wales broken deal with Donington Park, Conor Daly failing to get an IndyCar seat, and questioning Daniel Ricciardo’s bandwagon. You’ll see why when it happens.

Join me, @RyanErikKing and @Crekkan as I also reveal that we may be doing more episodes! Huzzah!

January 23, 2016 Episode #9: Fifty Shades of Hamilton

Episode #9: Fifty Shades of Hamilton

Note: Alternative names for this Episode include: “Dre likes Jennie”, “Dre likes McKenzie”, “Max Verstappen and Danica Patrick romp long into the night”, and a a stretch, “Crekkan confuses CART for Karting.”

In this episode, me, Ryan King and returning guest Gino “Crekkan” Van Den Broceke talk all about the F1 testing period in Jerez, Marussia’s 11th hour attempt at being saved (Unsuccessfully), Caterham finally being laid to rest, Force India’s current problems, Nissan’s new LMP1 car and why you should abandon your Dads to drive it around COTA backwards, and why everything’s coming up roses for Ferrari.

Oh, and we talk about Lewis Hamilton going single again after Nicole left him for the third time this month. And it got HILARIOUS from here. Including an unsolicited rumour that I have a crush on Formula 1 and E’s Jennie Gow. Which is completely unsolicited. Ahem.

Enjoy the show, its definitely the funniest we’ve put up to date!

January 23, 2016 Episode #8: You had WHO over Senna?!

Episode #8: You had WHO over Senna?!

This one’s going to go down well. In Episode 8 of The Motorsport 101 Podcast, we talk about the three 2015 Car Launches so far, from Lotus, Force India and Williams, what would happen if Ted Kravitz became a video blogger, and then the big one…Just who are our 10 greatest F1 drivers of all time?

We spent an hour breaking down our Top 10’s, from the Sir Jacks, to the Vettel’s of the world. One list only had one current driver. One list only had two. And one list had said current driver ABOVE Ayrton Senna. Wanna find out who? You gotta listen. Feel free to send in your Top 10’s, and please, whatever you do, don’t take them too seriously. Direct all abuse to @RyanErikKing on Twitter!

Enjoy!

January 23, 2016 Episode #7: My Ex-Girlfriend Is A Trained Assassin

Episode #7: My Ex-Girlfriend Is A Trained Assassin

EPISODE 7 – MY EX-GIRLFRIEND IS A TRAINED ASSASSIN

Oh boy, this could easily be our best episode to date. In this loaded edition of the Motorsport 101 Podcast, we talk all about Marussia’s potential escape plan and return to Formula 1, and why that may not entirely be a good thing. We also talk about Honda and the changes in the rules that are now allowing them to develop after all, but again… may not be as big a deal as you think.

Also, we talk about the RIDICULOUS Kurt Busch domestic violence story that’s swept through NASCAR, which includes conflicting eye-witness accounts, blood-splattered evening gowns, and you get to find out why a 5ft blonde hottie Patricia Driscoll gets given the nickname of “The Pocket Commando”. It’s as crazy, as it sounds.

And in the second half of the show, we answer your fan submitted questions into the show, including a makeshift supergrid with a twist, what motor series would we enter if given the chance, and if we had to put a Formula E team together, who’d we build them with. Some really good stuff on there, so thanks everyone for the questions! (Although, I’m not sure co-host @RyanErikKing appreciated “killing” Susie Wolff.)

And of course, thanks to everyone for the continued support, if you’re enjoying the show, PLEASE head over to iTunes and leave a positive rating and review! Enjoy the show!

January 23, 2016 Episode #6: Formula E Is Trying To Kill Me

Episode #6: Formula E Is Trying To Kill Me

No seriously, it is. After Round 4 of the Formula E Championship in Argentina, we discuss the ridiculous race in detail, including signing fans, Heidfeld’s rookie mistake that cost him his first win since the millennium started, Vergne’s issues, Sam Bird’s recovery, the final chicane incidents and small task of remembering Antonio Felix Da Costa winning to give us the series 4th different winner in as many races, and give me severe blood pressure. We also talk over Franck Montagny admitting he popped a Molly in Malaysia.

On top of that we talk over the Engine regulation changes and why Honda won’t be catching any breaks anytime soon, as well as the Super License changes and why overall, we think its a good thing, because I haven’t talked about them enough this week!

Also, new recording methods mean this should be the best sounding episode to date! Enjoy and thanks for all the support, it’s an honor to be on iTunes and we’ll be looking for Droid support soon. Thanks!

January 23, 2016 Episode #5: The Inevitable F1 2014 Season Review

Episode #5: The Inevitable F1 2014 Season Review

It’s that time of year again, Season Review time!

In Episode 5 of the Podcast, me, Ryan King, and Twitter’s own MasterSwift, Sascha Wagenblast, we talk all over the quick news and joke about the name of Kimi Raikkonen’s fiancé and the hilarious coincidence it provided, and then review all of the teams from the 2014 season, from Caterham’s carnage, to Marussia’s triumph, to Lotus’ downfall and social media mishaps, to the midfield fights between Force India, McLaren and Toro Rosso, Williams’ return to the top, Red Bull’s incredible recovery (When you think about it), and Mercedes dominant year. Still crazy when you consider that they scored SEVEN HUNDRED POINTS.

On top of that, we discuss our best race of the season, our driver of the season (Ryan’s choice may surprise you), and our biggest flop of the year.

Thanks to EVERYONE who’s listened throughout 2014 and a Happy New Year! We’ll be back in January!

January 23, 2016 Episode #4: Hamilton Wins Some Popularity Contest

Episode #4: Hamilton Wins Some Popularity Contest

I know, shocking right?

Okay, small couple of disclaimers here. First of all, the good news, I’ve removed the echoing! The bad news is, I’ve replaced it with popping! Yeah, my two main microphones are currently broken-ish. So, sadly, it’s either extreme echo, or occasional popping. Not ideal, and I apologize for that, but I think the popping is the lesser of two evils. It’ll be resolved very soon, I promise.

Also, this episode is slightly shorter, at about 50 minutes as opposed to the normal hour and a half or so. Reason being, is my lovely University mentor, Miss Sue Bowerman, said that the length might be a little long and it could be hard for listeners to digest, so I thought, “Heck, we’re still young, and experimental, why the heck not give it a shot?”, so let me know if you prefer the shorter format or if you’re okay with going long, and let me know what you all think, it really, REALLY helps. Thanks!

In this episode, me and Ryan King (@RyanErikKing) we talk about McLaren! Don’t all look surprised, we had to keep the tradition going, right? They finally revealed their driver line-up for 2015 and surprise, surprise, Fernando Alonso is official, or as I like to call it “The worst kept secret in Formula 1 history!” But alongside, in a change of heart (And probably a saved £4m a year), Jenson Button kept his seat as well, meaning McLaren now have the oldest and most experienced team in Formula 1. But what does that mean for the young blood in Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne?

Also, Lewis Hamilton won the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award. I know, shocker. We talk about the glorifed popularity contest that the award now is, why he beat Rory McIlroy, and the impending “F1 vs Golf” flame war that has taken place, in what I call the “Alien vs Predator” of sporting feuds, because whoever wins, we lose. We also tie it back to the issue of tax avoidance and Hamilton living overseas, along with Marc Marquez, who may have gotten caught out by the Spanish people for moving to the Andorra tax haven, and not paying enough back home, apparently. YOU MADE THE NICEST MAN IN THE WORLD CRY, HOW COULD YOU SPAIN?!

And finally, we talk about Esteban Gutierrez joining Ferrari as a test driver, and the Formula E round from Uruguay, and how Jean-Eric Vergne just can’t catch a break, and why Matthew Brabham will now be meme’d to all eternity.

And all that in 50 minutes?! Talk about value. Enjoy!

January 23, 2016 Episode #3: 99 Problems But The Becks Ain’t One

Episode #3: 99 Problems But The Becks Ain’t One

…hit me!

Hey guys, and welcome to Episode 3 of the newly renamed, Motorsport 101 Podcast! Big thanks to Tom Stanley for the suggestion on the new name. I suspected any title with over eight syllables loses something in the “catchiness” department.

In our longest show to date, this episode talks all about Abu Dhabi’s general mediocrity, the awesome sportsmanship and grace that Nico handled it with as he fell on his silver and turquoise sword, as well as the general reaction as F1 celebrates its first Multiple World Champion since Sir Jackie Stewart in 1971.

We also talk about Jennifer Becks (Of course) and Sky’s interesting production meetings, and the FIA meeting last night and gather up the announcements within, such as the possibility of a 21 race calendar in 2015, the Virtual Safety Car, no more double points and a reversal on the standing restart horse manure.

There’s talk on Nico Hulkenberg’s Le Mans move, Carlos Sainz Jr’s Toro Rosso announcement and how old we all feel that combined, they’re the same age as Mark Webber when he retired (An archaic 37, what a relic), the impact of youth and age and how it affects the landscape of Motorsport, and why McLaren STILL HAVEN’T ANNOUNCED THEIR DRIVERS YET. Seriously, this is the third straight taping where we’ve had to talk about McLaren, may god help us.

And finally, we have one of those difficult conversations about the Jules Bianchi crash report. Yay.

So strap yourself in for 105 minutes with me, Ryan King (@RyanErikKing) and Gino (@Crekkan) Van Dan Broecke, and I promise we only mention lesbian anime girls a handful of times!

P.S: I think there’s an echo effect during this recording. Not quite sure why that’s still a thing. Still ironing out the kinks audio wise, so bear with me, I don’t think it’s too bad. Just consider it one our of our 99 problems!
