December 31, 2020 Episode #281: Homecoming

Episode #281: Homecoming

And on Day 366 of March 2020, or as much as it feels that way, the final M101 of 2020 is here, as we celebrate the end of one of, if not, the greatest season of Motorsport, we’ve ever covered on this show, with MotoGP’s Season Finale at Portimao, Portgual.

And on this one, Miguel Oliveira had the homecoming of dreams as he took a Grand Slam on home turf in complete dominance, as the new Champions struggled, and *checks notes*… Ducati won a title?!

Also, we had the Suzuki drunken afterparty, and two other World Titles settled in dramatic fashion as Albert Arenas held on to win the Moto3 title, and Remy Gardner took his first career win as Luca Marini and Sam Lowes would have desperate last attempts to win the Moto2 off Enea Bastianini.

Thank you for all your support in 2020, and we’ll be back on New Year’s Day for another brand new (sort of) episode!

Podcast: Martin Brundle | Motor Sport Hall of Fame 2020

A World Sportscar Champion; Le Mans 24 Hours winner; Formula 1 driver and now a trusted voice to millions in the Sky F1 commentary box. Martin Brundle is inducted into the Motor Sport Hall of Fame this year, in recognition of his exceptional career behind the wheel and the microphone.

In this podcast, Brundle looks back at his racing career; his commentary break filling in for a missing James Hunt, and learning the ropes from fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Murray Walker, whose advice he follows to this day. He talks about the struggle to keep up to date with F1 in the digital age and why he’s secretly pleased that Covid put a temporary halt to his trademark grid walk.

We’ve said we’d avoid doing remote interviews but, well, changing times call for changing approaches. The final in our series of catch-ups with previous guests, we reached out to Zach Veach, who in only five months has encountered a whole number of life changes, luckily he can laugh. Closeout song is “Climb Down That Tree” by Jacob Montague. Thanks to Continental Tire, Valvoline and Acura for making this happen.

The third in our series of catch-ups with previous guests, we reached out to Andy Lally, who since his initial recording with us in 2015 was unsure of his future with Magnus Racing or in the sport, where he’s continued to thrive taking another win at Daytona, multiple other wins and podiums, as well as several NASCAR outings. December 21, 2020 Episode #280: Don’t Stop Mir Now

Episode #280: Don’t Stop Mir Now

Next up on the weekend of Champions, Joan Mir and the penultimate race in MotoGP’s season, as while Franky Morbidelli and Jack Miller beat the crap out of each other, Joan Mir played it safe and made history as the sport’s first-ever, ONE-win Champion. We spoke at length about the history made as Suzuki won the riders and teams championships, their first major honours in 20 years, in the 100th anniversary of their existence.

We also talk about Yamaha’s struggles, and a shocking finale to a Moto2 race as Fabio Diggia throws away his first Moto2 win on the final lap, and Champion-Elect Sam Lowes had a title-defining crash.
