April 5, 2016 Power Struggles Trouble Formula One

Power Struggles Trouble Formula One

The repeat mismanagement of the qualifying fiasco has brought Formula 1’s power struggles to the fore, say Mithila and Kunal in this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast. While the FIA & FOM seem to have ganged up against the teams, the fans have been neglected yet again. And for a change, the drivers too.

Given that the ‘three tyre compound’ rule seems to be working wonders for the sport, the duo wonder if this was a fluke decision after all. Also, does it make the sport a tad too confusing at times? We tell you why we prefer tyre strategy over fuel strategy.

Nico Rosberg’s victory in Bahrain was long overdue, but the same can be said about his career as well. Whether the ‘five consecutive wins’ statistic works for him or not, Rosberg is a true champion and we tell you why.

As for Lewis Hamilton, he seems better in finishing races than starting them; will this prompt a rule change by the FIA-FOM to help him back to his winning ways? We discussed the Hamilton-Bottas incident and wonder if the FIA Stewards are missing Pastor Maldonado this season.

Fernando Alonso might have missed performing on track in Bahrain, but he did make up for it via a stellar performance on LIVE TV with Johnny Herbert. Clap! Clap! And we wouldn’t be surprised if Stoffel Vandoorne reluctantly returned the keys of the Mclaren-Honda back to Alonso for China.

Lastly, are Ferrari pushing their development agenda at the cost of reliability? And did you know that three out of Kimi Raikkonen’s last four podium finishes came at circuits where there was no alcohol served (on the podium).

Tune in!

March 30, 2016 Ferrari Should Sign Max Verstappen

Ferrari Should Sign Max Verstappen

In this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Mithila and Kunal tell you why Ferrari should sign up Max Verstappen at the expense of letting go the yet-to-find-form Kimi Raikkonen.

We explain why there’s no ‘crisis in Formula 1’ and wonder what Haas Racing’s real pace is. As we THANK GOD that Flavio Briatore isn’t Bernie Ecclestone’s successor, we wonder if Formula 1 needs a Narendra Modi too?

The dubious qualifying format, Pirelli tyres, Ferrari vs. Mercedes – so much to look forward to in Bahrain, including Toro Rosso scoring their first points ever? And obviously, there’s no incentive to race to the podium in Bahrain for Kimi Raikkonen (we tell you why!).

And finally, did Kunal crack his best F1 joke ever in this episode? Tune in and find out.

March 23, 2016 Verstappen’s Typical Teenage Tantrums

Verstappen’s Typical Teenage Tantrums

Max Verstappen showed his trademark speed at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix, but did he also show some immaturity? Is he behaving like a typical teenager?

Verstappen’s request on the radio for ‘team orders’ shows that he’s learned well from our current and previous World Champions.

In this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Mithila and Kunal talk about how the opening round in Australia showcased the best and worst of Formula 1. They wonder why Rosberg’s race winning drive wasn’t covered as well on TV just as Hamilton’s off-tracks antics received their due interest.

Given our reigning World Champion’s interest in taking selfies while riding a bike, should Bernie also put out a message saying ‘Think Before You Take A Selfie?’.

As we wrap up this show, we wonder why Formula 1 is this expensive and why Haas won’t have be paid in their first year despite delivering a dream result on their debut. And finally, a Vettel-Webber show on Formula 1? We’d love that, won’t we!

F1, Back In Business?

After months of waiting, the 2016 Formula 1 Season is finally here. And while you wait for the five red lights to go out, tune in to the pre-Australian Grand Prix episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast.

Mithila and Kunal talk about how Lewis Hamilton is the ONLY one who is seemingly having the best start to the new season already. They also reveal Williams’ strategy to beat Force India while Red Bull Racing prove that the best way to react to being beaten is to quit!

We tell you why a Hamilton-Vettel pairing MIGHT just be needed in 2017, or better, a Hamilton-Alonso pairing in 2018. ‘Can Nico Rosberg FINALLY beat Lewis Hamilton?’ – our prediction on THE story of 2016. Lastly, Jenson Button could be in his last Formula 1 season. Tune in to find out why.

New F1 Season, Old F1 Problems

The new F1 season is approaching alright, but the same old problems seem to be weighing the sport down (again).

Sauber is struggling to pay salaries (again) and the probability of a single team dominating 2016 looms large (again). Alonso’s age old problems continue (pun intended, again) and so does the midfield teams’ struggle to make the most of their budgets (again).

In this episode of The Inside Line F1 Podcast, Mithila & Kunal tell you the real reason why Toto Wolff sold his final stake in Williams and why McLaren needs to fix the Azerbaijan GP.

Also, we dwell into ‘driverless’ cars and what if they are introduced in Formula 1. Lastly, here’s why Kimi Raikkonen was the first driver EVER to test the ‘halo’ concept.

January 28, 2016 F1 Plans To Go Social

F1 Plans To Go Social

After years of ignoring social media and its power, it seems that F1 might just embrace it with a storm – a ‘Driver of the Day’ may be selected from this new media. In this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Mithila and Kunal tell you how clichéd such ideas are and how F1 could push the limits on social media too.

Could fans choose what colour should Lewis Hamilton dye his hair next? Or who Pastor Maldonado should crash into!

As we inch closer to the 2016 Formula 1 Season, there’s good news from many quarters of the sport. Pirelli finally seem to be making sense as Renault wonder if they need any more crash tests. And we wonder if Massa’s retirement plans are to turn into a social media reporter. Lastly, do you remember Robert Doornbos? He’s pushing the limits of technology too, albeit in a different industry.

Tune in! (Season 2016, Episode 4)

What If Hamilton Had Raced For Red Bull Racing?

Taking cue from Christian Horner’s statements, Mithila and Kunal speculate on ‘what if’ Lewis Hamilton had raced for Red Bull Racing from 2012. Would he still be a triple World Champion? And what about Sebastian Vettel and of course, Mark Webber?

While Horner disclosed that he encouraged Mercedes to sign up Hamilton, we wonder who encouraged Mclaren to partner with Honda. We discuss the influx of new talent in Formula 1 and if people are drunk to be joining Manor F1 Team, and maybe Mclaren too?

In this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we initiate a ‘Hopeless Happenings’ section where we talk about the return of refuelling, louder engine sounds in 2016 and Force India’s on-off deal with ‘Aston-off Martin’. Not to forget Toto Wolff’s insulting (or flattering?) comments on his wife and former F1 driver Suzie and Kevin Magnussen’s attempt to woo Renault. Tune in! (Season 2016, Episode 3)
