Reflexology, sometimes referred to as zone therapy,is a complementary health therapy based on the theory that areas of the feet correspond to other parts of the body, Properly trained practitioners then apply pressure to the feet using specific massage techniques to restore balance to the body, relieve stress and promote a general sense of wellbeing.
The Cochrane Coolaboration , which is a non profit, medical research group, gives the following definition of reflexology:
“Reflexology is gentle manipulation or pressing on certain parts of the foot to produce an effect elsewhere in the body.”
It is an extremely personalised treatment specifically tailored to the individual. There has been considerable research reporting positive results from reflexology therapy and after treatment people often feel more relaxed with reduced tension. You may well notice an improvement in your overall mood with an enhanced sense of wellbeing. You may also notice you sleep better for longer periods.
Living in an ever more stressful world reflexology may prove to be one method of combating our personal stress levels.
One or two treatments might be sufficient or you may choose to use reflexology therapy on a regular basis for longer term and ongoing improvements in your mood and happiness.
The only clothing that needs to be removed are shoes and socks.
It can be dated back as far as Ancient Egypt,China and India but was not introduced into western culture until the 1930’s and the development of ‘zone therapy’ which divided the body into specific zones linked to areas of the feet.
Our home based salon is open until 8.30pm Monday to Saturday and is located in a quiet residential area of Maidstone with off-road parking. Please use the Contact Us page to make a booking or for further details.
Reflexology is suitable for anyone of any age but should not be used in place of medical treatment. If in doubt we would always advise seeing your doctor.

It’s taken us a while to pin two-time Le Mans winner Alex Wurz down – he’s a busy man with work in both the World Endurance Championship and Formula 1 as head of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association. However, we did finally catch him on his way out of the UK and this is the result: a fantastic hour of Formula 1, sports cars, BMX world championships and being inspired by Steven Spielberg’s film ET.
Enjoy and, as always, let us know what you think.
