Episode #40: The Church Of Verstappen

Making some history up in here! To celebrate our 40th episode here, we have 4 hosts on the show for the first time ever! Joining us, representing Bike Live, is the one and only Louis Suddaby! Follow him on Twitter – http://www.twitter.com/LouisSuddaby23

In the show, we talk all thing Spanish GP, as Max Verstappen made history to become F1’s youngest ever, and first ever Dutch winner, the lost opportunity for Ferrari, and the collision heard around the world as Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took each other out of a GP for the first time in their 62 race history together.

We talk Nelson Piquet and his exclusion from the Pau GP over in the FIA F3 European Championship and the precedent it may cause given the nature of its race.

We mention MotoGP and the ever-shifting rider market as Maverick Vinales heads to Suzuki, Andrea Iannone heads to Suzuki as Ducati tie up Andrea Dovizioso and Honda retain Dani Pedrosa.

And we also talk IndyCar’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis as Simon Pagenaud continues his sensational run of form to take his third consecutive win, as he brought home another Penske 1-2 over Helio Castroneves, as Conor Daly stole the show by leading 14 laps, with James Hinchcliffe scoring a podium almost a year to the day after his near-fatal accident.

All that and much more, on #Motorsport101’s 40th episode! Oh, and after James said he would be donating his prize money to Alberta’s Fire appeal, here’s a link where you can donate to the Red Cross over there. Thank you. We personally will donate 2p for every play this gets for the next week. May 16, 2016 Max Verstappen, Talent Of The Century

Max Verstappen, Talent Of The Century

Lewis Hamilton must be pissed with Niki Lauda for two reasons – first, Lauda blamed Hamilton for the Mercedes collision and second, Lauda called Max Verstappen the ‘talent of the century.’ Well, for that compliment, even Sebastian Vettel must be pissed!

Max Verstappen’s maiden race victory on his Red Bull Racing debut gives us plenty to cheer about. We heard the Dutch national anthem on the Formula 1 podium for the first time ever and it seems fans should get used to hearing this anthem very often.

The ‘Civil War’ that broke out on track between the Mercedes drivers – who was to blame? We give you our view, but we wonder if the Lauda-Hamilton bromance has actually come to a premature end.

Did Red Bull Racing favour a Verstappen win over Ricciardo? For a brand built on ‘shock marketing’, a Verstappen win would and was perfect PR for their ‘Gives You Wings’ tagline. Horner has labelled Verstappen as the ‘future’ of Red Bull Racing – will they now chase the Formula 1’s ‘Youngest World Champion’ record? And where does this leave Ricciardo?

We find amusement in Alonso’s lack of power (yes, it’s still funny), Kimi racing against both generations of Verstappens and Vettel’s cranky rants. Also, is Red Bull Racing Ferrari’s Young Drivers’ Program?

Tune in!

May 13, 2016 Episode #39: You Know Nothing, Dr. Marko

Episode #39: You Know Nothing, Dr. Marko

This totally wasn’t a controversial week you guys! I suspect we may have done the “Swap” jokes a week early. Whoops. But on this edition of #Motorsport101:

– We talk about everything to do with the Kyvat/Verstappen swap deal for Red Bull Racing, and why we think it may actually do more harm than good.

– Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes both had to make statements defending their own backs after accusations of conspiracies ran hot in Sochi after another miserable bit of luck for our Lew Lew. *sighs*

– We talk about Romain Grosjean and the possibility of him heading to NASCAR for a one-off round, and the possibility of beer company Heineken potentially joining F1 as a sponsor.

– We review all the EXCITING (Haha), action from MotoGP in Le Mans as Jorge Lorenzo dominates, Marquez and Dovi participate in synchronised crashing, Rins and Vinales impress, and we ask whether this is the best #Moto3 class ever after Aron Canet nearly stole another podium for the rookies.

– And over in IndyCar, we talk about the strong possibility of Watkins Glen hosting the series again as a Boston replacement, as well as the chances of a Non-Championship round in China in October.

All that and 15 NASCAR references on #Motorsport101! Don’t forget to check is out on YouTube, and back us on Pateron if you really enjoyed! Thanks for listening!
