Romain Grosjean has joined the group of directors for the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, replacing the outgoing Jenson Button. Grosjean will serve alongside Sebastian Vettel as a fellow director, and chairman Alex Wurz. Grosjean said: “I am proud to have been elected by my peers. We race drivers don’t always hold the same opinion but we are united in wanting the best for our sport.”

Alex Wurz added: “Over recent years Romain has been a very active GPDA member. He has a lot of energy and thoughts about our sport and Sebastian and I welcome him as a great addition to the board.”

The organisation exists to bring drivers together and give them one voice to put their view to the governing body and commercial body. At the moment, the priority is to push for additional head protection, which is something Grosjean has been particularly vocal about. He’s not a fan of the halo or the current favourite, the shield, but will no doubt be on board with the rest of the GPDA pushing either premise forward.
