Okay, this is now getting ridiculous. Alex Palou is super hot. He took control late on in the GP of Road America and has now taken his third win in the last four races and extended his Championship lead to 74 points over Marcus Ericsson.

And as a result, Dre and Cameron deep dive on the man’s future. Should Palou stay at Chip Ganassi as the fastest man/car combo in the series and potentially dominate for years to come? Should he still move to McLaren with an outside chance of an F1 seat? Or does he just leave the series altogether and go all-in for an F1 drive? We weigh up the options!

And the same goes for Marcus Ericsson too, who’s future is up in the air. Chip Ganassi is playing hard ball with an extension for the “Sneaky Swede” but still wants money for his seat, while McLaren are also sniffing with a potential four car expansion in the works. And all of this while Marcus Armstrong is proving his worth in the 11. Is Marcus overselling his own hand? Is Chip arrogant for thinking anyone can win in his cars? A deep dive there too!

Welcome back to the title race, Jorge Martin! The Spaniard had a perfect weekend, doubling up with a Sprint and Grand Prix win, the latter a back and forth dogfight that had them separated by just 0.064 seconds in the end!

But let’s be honest here – That’s not why you’re really here. You’re here for Marc Marquez, and the weekend that broke the camel’s back. SIX crashes on the weekend, the latter of which on Sunday warm-ups fractured a rib and a finger and had Marquez pull out of the weekend despite being “declared fit”. We dedicate the majority of the podcast towards breaking down the peak of Marquez’s struggles and how we got to this point. And most importantly – Is it over?

And we talk about the state of the field. Ducati had all eight of their bikes in the Top 9 with Jack Miller (who was extra ranty), the only man breaking up the mess. Has their dominance gotten too much? And what could be done to stop?

Oh Canada, Verstappen won again! *logs off*

But Motorsport101 is back to review a surprisingly decent Monaco GP as Max Verstappen made yet more history. A fastest lap shy of back-to-back Grand Slams and all 70 laps led to extended his streak to 224 at the front of the field. The last time someone else led a lap of F1, it was 45 days ago. And he caught a bird in his brake duct. Seriously. Straight out of Randy Johnson’s playbook (Google it!)

But we also talk about one of the greatest podiums ever seen in F1. Adrian Newey joined Alonso and Hamilton on the stage and we think there’s 24 Championships and 370+ wins between them, with Newey collecting his 200th as a designer!

Also on the bill, Alex Albon collecting some flowers after an epic 7th place drive for Williams, keeping Norris and Ocon behind him on a 58 lap hard-tyre stint. One of the most important drives for Williams in recent times as we get into why!

Sometimes, you just gotta clean your room! We’ve been a bit behind on Podcasts lately, our bad! So we’re doing what we used to do, mix and match some sports and play catch up!

We talk a little bit about MotoGP in Italy, a weekend so devoid of news that we couldn’t justify a full episode on it with Francesco Bagnaia winning via a Grand Slam in a Ducati Top 4 lockout. Oh and Marc Marquez crashes out from 4th and stares at his bike in dismay. Remember that, it becomes important later…

We also talk about Formula E and catchup over the last three races. From Nick Cassidy winning in Monaco in 9th and sending it around the Lowes Hairpin, to the frustration of his Championship lead falling apart in Jakarta, with Pascal Wehrlein back in the winners circle and Maxi Gunther taking Maserati’s first poles in Formula E and Maserati’s first single-seater win in 63 years!

And with it, we deal with a Jakarta round that had the sport change the format due to concerns the first race was too much of a sprint, and extensions to the Attack Mode requirements. And, a five-way title fight with just five races to go. Who do we think is back in control?

After many years, and the permanent addition of a host 5 years ago who complained about the state of Endurance Racing, Dre Harrison has caught the bug of sportscar racing, and enjoyed the most important Le Mans in recent years. And the 100th Anniversary running of the world’s greatest race was an all-time classic and massive game of attrition.

And above it all, we had Ferrari winning their first Le Mans since 1965, taking a thriller with Toyota all the way to the final two hours, with Toyota’s ace Ryo Hirakawa binning the car at Arnage being the final blow for a team looking to go six straight.

We talk about the Balance of Performance, and how almost every factory shined, including Peugeot who led several hours through the rain! Did the ACO get this right, or was it to stop Toyota from winning?

And we HAD to talk about Hendrick Motorsport’s incredible Garage 56 creation, as NASCAR stole the hearts of the field after some incredible fun converting a Stock Car into an Endurance racer faster than the GTE’s!

Detroit was a wild one, and this time it was for all the right reasons… mostly. The new street circuit down Jefferson Avenue was an awful layout but made for some decent recent in the end. But one thing still remains clear. Alex Palou is still HIM. His first ever Street Circuit win now puts in the drivers seat for the $1m bonus and he at times looked DOMINANT in a 74 lap leading charge. Dre and Cam make the most of the performance!

We also talk about a potential referendum on McLaren after Pato O’Ward made another big blunder, crashing into the wall while trying to pass Santucci. Alongside Felix Rosenqvist pushing Alexander Rossi into the wall, just what is going on with a team that should now be contending?

And we get into the big news of Conor Daly being fired from Ed Carpenter Racing after a poor, but not outlandishly bad run of form, with Ryan Hunter-Reay coming out of retirement to race the #20 instead. Is there more to it than what it appears?

Look, we try to make this one seem like it was interesting, but sometimes you get what you’re given. Max Verstappen completely dominated the Spanish Grand Prix, winning with a Grand Slam (by 24 seconds), and with it, has now led 155 consecutive laps in F1. Can anything stop him? Sergio Perez couldn’t after getting knocked out in Q2 and could only manage 4th. 53 points back? Are we done here?

Also, we try to make sense of the midfield post upgrades. Ferrari had a disatwrous weekend with their new sidepods, with Sainz finishing 5th after starting second, and a freak Q1 elimination for Charles Leclerc could only have him manage 11th. Rough.

Mercedes though? Double podium after getting the best out of their new package, a good sign in their fight with Aston Martin. Who were just… kind of there? And hey, good for Lance Stroll beating Fernando for once!

Good news gang, for the first time, we can say Charles Leclerc finished a Monaco Grand Prix! It’s a plus!

But oh man, shock news! We actually got a good Monaco GP! I know right? Red Bull actually came *this* close to losing one, due to a torrential downpour with just 25 laps to go, and Fernando Alonso almost undercutting Max for the win in transition… but they put slicks on it! *headdesk*

We also breakdown the most bonkers Quali lap from Max Verstappen that got him there in the first place! A massive three tenths of a second gain from Max with just one sector to go, and jaws dropping the world over with Esteban Ocon almost stealing pole with three minutes left!

We also break down some of the struggles of some of the sport’s reserve drivers. Sergio Perez crashed in Q1 and struggled to make ground from the back of the field in 16th. And Lance Stroll missed the weighbridge in Q2, and was stuck in 14th before retiring after clattering into the Lowes hairpin on Inters. Who had it worse?

Well, that was a hell of an Indianapolis 2.5 right? We kid, but the 107th Indy 500 was yet another case of the tension being dialled up to the maximum in the final 50 laps! And in extra cool news, Ryan Erik King is back on the show this time around to break it all down!

But first, we had to peel RJ O’Connell off of the ceiling as he celebrated his mans, Josef Newgarden finally winning the Indy 500 at his 12th attempt, the 2nd longest wait before anyone finally got their face on the Borg-Warner. And from 17th on the grid too!

We had to address the elephant in the room though, and that was the finish. Not only did we get three red flags in the final 15 laps, we also gort a 1-lap shootout for the win in a moment where the series dusted off a rule that hardly ever gets used in order to do it. Was it controversial, an Abu Dhabi 2021, or something inbetween? We try to make sense of it.

And we wonder, is Pato O’Ward becoming too aggressive for his own good? He went the complete opposite way compared to his last Indy 500 clash with Marcus Ericsson, divebombing him with 7 laps to go, while on fresher tyres… and then claimed he’ll be more aggressive next time. Is he ruining his title campaign?
