November 14, 2023 Episode #484: 2023 MotoGP Malaysian GP Review

Episode #484: 2023 MotoGP Malaysian GP Review

Oh boy. We’d be lying to you if we called this one a classic. It wasn’t.

Sepang brought out the worst of the current era of MotoGP. While we were delighted for Enea Bastianini to take his first win for the factory Ducati team, the distance between the Top 4 was exacerbated by a heavy amount of dirty air. The tyre pressure issue reared its ugly head again as well as five riders break the rule on the limits and Bagnaia loses his practical “joker” after Martin’s “illegal” win in Thailand. Is there anything that can be done to fix the problem?

And we also talk more about the incoming mess at Repsol Honda. Red Bull will be walking away from the team as a key sponsor at the end of the year, and Luca Marini has now become the favourite for the Marquez replacement seat in 2024. But with Valencia’s test now just 13 days away, is it a good look for the most decorated team in the business to have no confirmed lineup and 50 crashes on the season?

It’s a headache inducing M101 and it starts now!

Episode #483: 2023 MotoGP Australia and Thailand GP Reviews

Apologies for those who have waited patiently, the bikes are back on Motorsport101. Sincerely, sorry for having to wait so long, Cam’s not been in the best of knick health-wise lately and we wanted to wait and do it justice by waiting until he was well enough to come back. So here we are!

In this episode, we catch up by reviewing both the Philip Island and Buriram MotoGP rounds. In Philip Island, we had weather-related chaos as the threat of heavy winds led to a Saturday Grand Prix for the first time in eight years, and a cancelled Sprint as the sport tried to beat an oncoming storm.

We break down Johann Zarco finally getting his first premier-class win in his 120th attempt. 20 podiums, 91 laps led in his career and finally, he led the one that mattered most, just before his window for it likely will slam shut. And Cam asks an important question on the strategy call of Jorge Martin: “Why are you the way that you are?” We break down the thin line between genius and crazy.

We also talk about an ongoing health issue the sport seems determined to ignore, the revelation that Moto3 rider Diogo Moreira was allowed to race mere minutes after a crash the team would later admit, knocked him out. Can the sport afford to continue not have a concussion policy?

And finally, we talk about Buriram as Jorge Martin redeemed himself with another double win. Still, he had Brad Binder as a constant pest (How has he gone over 2 years since his last win?!), and Francesco Bagnaia’s gap thinning to just 13 points after trying and failing the pass of the century!

All that and more on another Motorsport101!

Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

This should be the São Paulo Grand Prix Episode, but unfortunately we have massively fucked up our logistics and so it isn’t. It’s just a placeholder to tell you how much we’ve Ferrari’d things up, and to apologise. But we WILL have an episode before the next Grand Prix. Almost definitely. Ok. Sorry.

Ep.231 – Dinner(s) with Paul Tracy: Paul’s Lady

Paul Tracy has spent nearly half a century building himself as one of the unique characters of the sport. Whether you consider him one of the greats, one of the most polarizing, or simply one of the most fascinating, Paul’s place in the sport is without question. As part of our “Dinner(s) with Paul Tracy” video series, we follow up on our 2017 podcast with a video series, spending a week with him at his home. This episode is an extended version of our sit down with Paul and his partner Lisa at their home in Scottsdale, AZ, acting as a complimentary episode to our “Dinner with Racers” video series on MotorTrend’s YouTube and MotorTrend+ streaming, where you can see the story unfold in a two-part special. Dinner was served at Paul’s home courtesy of Lisa, with the song “Internet Girlfriend” by Asher Postman taking us out. Thanks again to Continental Tire for making it all happen.
