Episode #359: 2022 Formula E Monaco Report

A return to Monaco for a race that last year, we called the 2021 Motorsport101 Race of the Year. It was a much anticipated affair, but in the end, Stoffel Season returned to the streets as he took an impressive win over Jaguar’s Mitch Evans and DS’s Jean-Eric Vergne.

We talk about some of the excellent gamesmanship tactics of Stoffel’s win, as well as the expense of Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein, who was set to win until a low-voltage battery failure shut his car off from the lead. Safe to say, Cam didn’t take that one too well.

…We also discuss Dre’s pre-season Jaguar pick. Mitch Evans has gone 1st, 1st, 2nd + Pole in his last three races, as he remains 9 points off the lead of the title. So why is the mood at Jaguar so glum? We dissect some of Sam Bird’s struggles as well.

We also talk some of the Silly Season news, as it turns out with Mercedes leaving the sport, Stoffel’s going with them, heading up a new DS Penske collab with Jean-Eric Vergne, with Antonio Felix Da Costa heading to Porsche to partner Pascal! We break down the moves, as well as King’s shock at how it’s all come together!

And finally, we talk about the release of the Gen 3 car, and try and fail to make jokes comparing the new cars to the Wipeout video game series. But still, 350 kilowatts of power and a 200+ mph top speed has to sound cool, right?

All that in a loaded Formula E version of Motorsport101!

May 5, 2022 Episode #358: Suzuki Quits MotoGP / 2022 MotoGP Spain Report

Episode #358: Suzuki Quits MotoGP / 2022 MotoGP Spain Report

This was an emergency episode we recorded and turned around ultra quick because for obvious reasons. We were shocked to hear on Monday afternoon the news that Suzuki would out of nowhere, told the team their intent to quit the sport at the end of the 2022 season.

The ramifications from this are massive. Suzuki haven’t even realised any official statements yet as Japan are in the middle of Golden Week, a public bank holiday. There’s already been massive speculation regarding their riders future. Where does Joan Mir and Alex Rins go next year? What happens to the grid slots that Suzuki have? And with Dorna already writing a strongly worded letter reminded them of the 5-year agreement the sport signed on with last year, is this going to get settled in the courts?

On top of that, we review the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez with Francesco Bagnaia winning a narrow fight with Fabio Quartararo, and Marc Marquez producing another miracle save in a fight for 3rd with Aleix Espargaro and Jack Miller.

It’s a special edition of Motorsport, check back this weekend for Monaco’s EPrix!

Episode #357: 2022 MotoGP Portuguese GP Report

Welcome back, Fabio Quartararo, we missed you in this 2022 title race!

MotoGP’s 4th round of the Championship had the runners and riders return to Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix! And we got an absolute seal-clubbing of a win from the reigning Champion, Fabio Quartararo. We talk all about the polarity between his speed, and the rest of the struggling Yamaha paddock at the top of the show.

We also talk Honda’s struggles with complaints that familiar issues cropped up as the Marquez brothers had a huge scrap for… 7th. We also mention Jack Miller, who was looking good for a podium finish, until he divebombed the ever loving shit out of Joan Mir and caused them both to hit the deck. Right when Autosport drops a clanger that he might be going to LCR Honda… Not ideal as Ducati’s soap opera of messy weekends continues. (Stop us if you’ve heard that one before.)

Also, Moto2 had a huge multi-bike wreck due to some late rain, and Joe Roberts taking a sprint win for USA’s first win for 11 years! All that and more on Motorsport101!

All that, and more on the Sprint mode format changes too, in a heaped episode of Motorsport101!
