McLaren confirm Jenson Button as Alonso’s Monaco replacement

It didn’t take long for McLaren to find a ready and willing substitute for Fernando Alonso, after revealing this week that the Spaniard would be missing the Monaco Grand Prix in favour of racing a McLaren car in the Indy 500. The team are bringing back Jenson Button, who retired at the end of the 2016 season as a full time F1 racer, to become the reserve driver this year and focus on other interests.

Button has been training hard to take part in Iron Man competitions, but will return to racing on four wheels in May. The British driver said: “I’m thrilled to be making a one-off return to F1 racing, and I couldn’t think of a better place to make that return than my adopted home of Monaco… It’ll be nice to say hi to all my old F1 mates too, and hopefully to give the fans something to cheer about.”

Racing Director, Éric Boullier, adds: “Jenson is a superb driver and he won’t have lost any of his competitive edge over the past few months. After all, he’s missed only a handful of races since Abu Dhabi last year, and he’s as fit as a fiddle. Also, he’s always been good at Monaco.”

Episode #81: Thanks, McHondretti

We missed the Alonso news by a day, goddamnit! (Next week, folks)

An absolutely stacked episode of Motorsport101 with Andre Harrison, Ryan King and RJ O’Connell this week! In Keepin’ It 101, we talk the Grand National, Golf (GARCIA! FINALLY!), Hazing in Wrasslin’ with Mauro Ranallo’s seeming WWE departure, and Joker Laps, before we get stuck into the meat and potatoes here…

…Which includes a decent Chinese Grand Prix that seemed to leave us with more questions than answers, as Lewis Hamilton took his 5th Chinese victory ahead of Vettel and a moany Verstappen, who had come back from 16th. There was also IndyCar’s Long Beach GP where James Hinchcliffe took a surprisingly good GP ahead of Sebastien Bourdais, and Scott Dixon’s wife got mad salty again… Which was great!

We also cover Super GT’s new season opener and your Mailbag returns!

Epsiode 1 – SEASON 8 – 13.04.17

Ok the boys are back after a two week break! Rally Corsica is the main subjet for discussion and the boys do their AOB at the end of the show this week!

Also first of a multi part piece with former international co driver and tyre engineer Jerry Freeman. As a codriver he competed in the Middle East, Asia Pacific and British Rally Championships. He sat with Richard Burns on his first overseas event in Belgium, was a tyre engineer with Pirelli when both Richard and Colin McRae won their world titles. And he sat along pretty much every top star in the mid 90’s during testing. Some great stories coming up!
