April 29, 2022 Episode #355: 2022 Formula E Rome E-Prix Report

Episode #355: 2022 Formula E Rome E-Prix Report

While Monaco prepares itself for the REAL Grand Prix it has down there, we look back on Formula E’s Rome Double Header weekend and for the first time since Season 6, we had a back-to-back winner as MITCCCCCCCCCCCH BRRRRRRRAH (Evans), dominated the weekend, including a Race 1 Dub where he came from 9th on the grid and still won comfortably. Mitch now resides just 9 points off the top of the Championship? Does King have to eat a Blueberry Pie after being adamant that Jaguar won’t win?

We also talk some more of the creative decisions the series has taken. Including trying to sync up Quali laps, having a mood room Parc Ferme style after the race, and adding extra… rather cringey intros during Qualifying. Dre, King and Cam… weren’t impressed and discuss the series overly-contrived attempt to harbour drama.

And we try and make some sense of the title picture as we’re now 5 rounds down. Are we any closer to figuring out the state of play? We try and find out.

All that and more on another M101, stay tuned for Imola real soon!

April 28, 2022 Bye Bye Bernie (Reprise)

Bye Bye Bernie (Reprise)

If you’re looking at the show notes, that’s because you’re confused by references to Button and Bernie. And that’s because this is our review of the 2016 Italian Grand Prix.

Some of it will be very dated. Some probably quite tasteless. But it’s a snapshot we felt important to give you this week as we’re all a bit ill.

Back with a proper show next week… and you can support our respective recoveries by heading to ff1s.com/pintpintpint.

April 25, 2022 Episode #354: MotoGP GP of the Americas Report

Episode #354: MotoGP GP of the Americas Report

A very different kind of brilliance befell the Circuit of the Americas for Round 4 of the MotoGP World Championship. Marc Marquez, the heavy favourite, got hit with a technical gremlin off the line and fell to the back. So of course he still finished 6th, just 6 seconds off the win. We go weak at the knees over this ride.

Oh, and Enea Bastianini won! That was cool. We discuss the prospects of whether a GP21 Ducati can truly challenge for the title, and Enea’s credentials. On top of that, we also talk Jack Miller on the GP21.5, who finished on the podium, yet still faces more questions over his future. We discuss Jorge Martin, and Miller’s roles in Ducati’s growing headache.

We also talk Alex Rins and his very sneaky title campaign that’s going under the radar! All that and more coming up on a new Motorsport101!

April 22, 2022 Episode #353: 2022 IndyCar GP of Long Beach Report

Episode #353: 2022 IndyCar GP of Long Beach Report

Long Beach. A race of 95% excellent and 5% comedy. You’ll see what you mean as you listen on!

It was another outstanding display from Josef Newgarden at Long Beach, overrunning last year’s winner in Colton Herta, then surviving an intense amount of pressure from Alex Palou and Romain Grosjean from behind, both arguably with faster cars. We break down Josef’s most exciting win since… the previous round? And can he win that $1m Triple Crown bonus?

We talk more about Colton Herta too. He had a carbon copy of his Nashville wreck last year, that put him out of the running while 3rd at Long Beach. Is it fair to question the young driver’s discipline while he challenges for a title? And is this going to help him in his path for an F1 seat?

On the other side of the coin, Romain Grosjean had his third 2nd place finish on a Street Circuit, that first win ever closer. Is he the TRUE leader of the Andretti team going forward? An interesting debate came up when discussing his weekend, well worth a listen!

And we had to talk some of the laughs here too, with a camera pan of the ages for Marcus Ericsson, and Simon Pagenaud becoming a gardener at the Fountain. Fun times, at Motorsport101.

April 16, 2022 Charles in Charge

Charles in Charge

If there isn’t a missile attack, was there even a Grand Prix? Yes, according to Australia, which radically changed its track and nobody really noticed. Then Charles Leclerc won the championship already, Max Verstappen retired (again) and Mercedes somehow spawned a podium (again).

Cheeka, Phill and Terry try to make sense of it all, then give up and drink and make filthy jokes. Again.

April 15, 2022 Episode #352: 2022 Formula 1 Australian GP Report

Episode #352: 2022 Formula 1 Australian GP Report

Round 3 of the Formula 1 World Championship had the travelling circus head to Albert Park in Australia for the first time in 3 years, with a new chicane, but a familiar result – Charles Leclerc laying a whooping on the field and Max Verstappen suffering ANOTHER DNF as his car exploded off a fuel leak. We talk about the state of play in the title race as Max falls 46 points behind Charles in the title race and Red Bull 49 points back in the Constructor’s. Is this already over? *Nico Rosberg meme*

We also talk about some of the weekend’s disasters, like Carlos Sainz losing his Quali lap and then binning it on Lap 2. Fernando Alonso on track for a front row until losing it in Qualifying. And then Aston Martin, who spent most of their weekend rebuilding their cars and copping penalties. Safe to say, that honeymoon is over.

Also, Formula 1 is heading to Vegas! We catch up with the big announcement from last week and talk about the layout, the cultural impact and beyond!
